Denver Runway Concrete

Synopsis:

The Denver International Airport was built in the early 1990's and was the first new major airport to be built in the United States since the early 1970's. As with any large project, problems arose, but the most interesting problems came from the concrete used for the runways, taxiways, and aprons at the airport. The runway contractor was Ball, Ball, & Brosamer (3Bs) and near completion of the airport two subcontractors filed lawsuits against 3Bs claiming that 3Bs owed them money. The main allegation of these lawsuits was that 3Bs had altered the recipe for the concrete by using more gravel, water, and sand and less cement. This allowed 3B to make a larger profit on the project. As the controversy heated up reports of falsified test results, tips of when inspections were to happen, and tampering with computer software were made.
