GUIDE Program
(Graduate and Undergraduate Initiative for Development and Enhancement)

Notice: The GUIDE Program is currently not accepting applications for the 2007-2008 Academic Year pending grant renewal status.

The GUIDE program is designed to help students in engineering to succeed at Michigan Tech. The target audience for the program is women and minorities underrepresented in engineering. In the GUIDE program, first year engineering students are awarded scholarships (up to $2500) for a maximum of two years. To assist students with funding their remaining education, workshops are held during which students learn about the services the Career Center offers, create a resume', download their resume'  onto the Career Center web site, have mock interviews, and are given tips on how to find co-op or internship positions. The students also attend seminars in which faculty from the different engineering departments talk about topics regarding career paths, opportunities in their field, balancing career with a personal life, and other various life skills.

During a student's second year in the program, s/he will become a mentor to a first year student. At this phase, mentors help new students adjust to college life, help them with their courses, and help them find resources at Michigan Tech (i.e., things to do outside of classes, learning centers, student organizations).

The first year students and sophomore students will also have a graduate student mentor. Most of these mentors are part of the Peace Corp Master's International Program in Civil and Environmental Engineering http://www.civil.mtu.edu/peacecorps  at Michigan Tech. The role of the graduate mentor is to keep both groups of undergrads focused. They also help the students to meet their educational goals.
The graduate students receive scholarships of up to $3125.

To be eligible for this program you must be :
